Your thyroid generates your energy, determines the rate of your metabolism, and stimulates the function of every cell in your body. Many people are suffering from low thyroid hormone, even though they are already taking conventional thyroid medication, or a doctor has told them their thyroid is fine.
The standard tests to assess thyroid function are poor, and often miss low thyroid function. TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) is the medical gold standard for testing thyroid. TSH is the hormone released by the brain to talk to the thyroid, telling it to make thyroid hormone. It is not a measure of the thyroid itself. You are considered hypothyroid only when your TSH is out of range, but the ranges are not great, and there are many situations resulting in low thyroid with a normal TSH. Only using TSH to assess the thyroid is a huge weakness of the current medical system causing unnecessary suffering to many. If your TSH is normal it doesn’t necessarily mean your thyroid is normal!
If you have many of the symptoms of low thyroid, we recommend a hormone balancing program. In most situations, we begin with a consultation and hormone testing. After your detailed initial consult, the best testing for your situation will be suggested, and may include blood, saliva or urine testing for thyroid and other related hormones. We use the most currant and advanced hormone testing possible. After assessing your hormone levels, we will work toward thyroid health by considering important thyroid issues like adrenal support, stress management, toxicity and heavy metals, antibodies and the immune system, and nutrition.
