One of the most important factors in achieving good overall health is having an oral environment free of pathogenic (harmful) bacteria.
There is substantial documentation linking harmful oral bacteria to numerous systemic diseases in the body, such as arthritis, autoimmune disease and cardiovascular disease, to name a few.
At the dental office of Dr. Elmajian two screening tests for the presence of harmful oral microorganisms are offered to patients.
1) The Bana test, which is performed while the patient is in the dental chair, provides general information indicating whether or not harmful organisms are present. It does not identify the organism and therefore cannot provide treatment modality information.
2) A DNA test, which is carried out in a commercial laboratory with the patient’s saliva does provide specificity of harmful organisms, the degree of severity and treatment modality indicated.
Prevention is paramount to wellness and longevity and having access to these important and simple tests provides another key element to achieving good health.
