Acupuncture has been used in China for thousands of years to regulate our body’s system, and has become an increasingly popular treatment modality for pregnancy-related conditions. Acupuncture can support pregnant women during each trimester and it associated symptoms.
Pregnant women receiving acupuncture
Since some acupuncture points or combination of points should not be used during pregnancy, it is important to choose a practitioner experienced in prenatal acupuncture. Regular balancing treatments throughout pregnancy can enhance the mother’s and baby’s health.
First trimester– Sets the foundation for a healthy pregnancy. Acupuncture can alleviate fatigue, morning sickness, and vomiting.
Second trimester– Acupuncture helps to alleviate elevated blood pressure, heartburn, and stress. It helps to control pain and calm the mind.
Third trimester – Acupuncture prepares the body for labour and delivery. It can re-position a breech baby.
If a woman is past her due date, acupuncture can be used to induce labour. This type of induction is gentler than the labour-inducing treatments and medications of traditional Western medicine.
